History of Sri-lanka

 

        When Vijayan came to Sri Lanka, people like Eyakkar, Nagar and Thevar lived in Sri Lanka Vijayan ended up Marrying Kwani, who belonged to the Eyakkar's clan.

         Vijayan belongs to the Aryan race of India Such information can be found in texts such as Mahavamsa , Choolavamsa and Deepavamsa.

King Pandugapayan was the first Anuradhapura to be ruled by several kings under the name of Anuradha

   In later times the Capitals of Sri Lanka were Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambadeniya, Yapakuwa, Kurunegala and Gampola. The pond called Basavakulam was built by King Pandukapaya. Devanampiyatheesan is considered to be the first King to adopt Buddhism . King Duttagaimunu, King Valakamba, King Vasaban, King Mahasena, King Dadusena, King Maha Parakramabahu was one of the most important kings.

        The coastal areas of Ceylon were captured in 1505 by troops led by Lorenzo Almida, Commander of the Portuguese. But the kings ruled the Central Highlands and in 1815 the British conquered King Rajasinghe and conquered the whole of Ceylon including the Central Highlands.

    During the period from 1505 to 1948, Portugal was found under the foreign rule of Sri Lanka in the order of Hollander, English. Sri Lanka became an independent country on British rule on February 4, 1948 after intermittent riots. The then Prime Minister Mr. B.S.
